Loyalty

Artist Inspiration
The piece was inspired by the statue of Hachiko, the faithful dog. Hachiko's story dates back to the 1920s, when he was purchased by university professor Hidesamuro Ueno in Japan. Every morning as Ueno headed off to work, the kindhearted akita would accompany him to the train station. Hachiko would sit there patiently until the end of the day, ready to greet him upon his return home. However, one day the professor didn't show up because he died earlier in the day. Even though he didn't show up anymore, Hachiko spent about 10 years waiting for its owner. The "Hand of God" which was made by Auguste Rodin inspired me as well because of it simple message, the same as the simple message I'm trying to convey in this piece.

Meaning
The meaning of the piece, is that I wanted to convey the importance of loyalty. Life is a lot easier when other people are willing to help you. Most people won't be willing to help you if they don't feel they can trust you. Trust is earned by demonstrating loyalty over time. That's why loyalty is important. In friendship, loyalty is also needed because you can always count on that person once he is loyal. Whenever you have problems in life and struggles to encounter, you are assured that there is somebody to turn to for comfort. Since I have trust issues I take loyalty very seriously when it comes to friendship beacuse I want someone who won't stab me in the back.
Reflection
This project has shown me new experiences when working with different media. Newspaper was really frustrating to work with since it didn't really cooperate with me. Some pieces were sticking up and I couldn't get a perfect sphere that I expected to have. At the beginning I planned to create an hourglass, but it changed since I thought that loyalty was more sacred to me than anything else. What I would change about this is the way that I sculpted the dog which looks crappy. It would've been better if I planned ahead of time and what I wanted to include in my piece. However, I succeed in creating a concept that I felt that represent my beliefs. If I were to do this again, I would take my time and create something better, meaning that I should create my art with patience in order to create a nice piece.
