Fear Takes Its Toll

Artist InspirationThe artist that inspired me in the first idea was Mike Kelley. The piece that caught my attention was the Deodorized Central Mass with Satellites series where a bunch of stuffed animals were sewn together, creating a sphere, and that was hanged. It gave out a childish feeling which really applied to my idea. Another artwork of that same artist that inspired me was Tiger and Saddle Shoe. It has a similar look to the previous piece I mentioned earlier. Another artist that inspired me was Red Grooms because he usually captured the city. His pieces reminded me of our modern society.

Reflection
In the process of this project I experimented with a variety of objects in order to convey an speciific concept. I was just overwhelmed at all the possibilities that I had when it came to creating something organic out of something industrial. However, I wasn't clear enough in the whole concept as I first thought. For starters, I failed at actually creating an organic object. Even though I created something out of industrial things, I still didn't create an object out of other objects. In addition, I felt that this project was a failure because the look of it is too elementary. At first, I thought that I was on the right path, but as I saw later on, I made a mistake when I created the sculpture. On the other hand, I did succeed on conveying a clear concept of what herd mentality looks like in my eyes; my own interpretation. If I were to do this again, I would plan out my ideas better and to focus on creating the piece in another way that isn't as elementary as I just created.
