Planning/Brainstorming
At the beginning of the project, I was unsure of what it was asking. Confusion was the only thing that got me stuck in the process of this project. It was difficult to come up with what I wanted to do since I didn't know the concept that the artists were trying to express in their work. However, the more I saw their work, the clearer the concepts got in my head when it came to brainstorming the possible ideas in this piece.
- The first idea that popped in my head was to portray a small baby on top of a lot of color pencils with about three balloons as the background.
- The second was to create an Earth out of recycled newspaper to later burn it outside at night to give it an eerie feeling.
- This idea was to create a cage out of color pencils symbolizing school and how it hinders the creativity of children. It wasn't a strong concept.
Artist Inspiration
The other two artists that helped me with my second idea were Rosemarie Trockel and Stuart Haygarth. When I saw the Gewohnheitstier I (Creature of Habit 1), it made me think about the animals that are in danger when it comes to surviving in the world with the changes that are occuring at the moment. Later I saw another artist with the name of Stuart Haygarth. The one that inspired me the most was Drop. This got me to think about the Earth's wellbeing. As of now, the Earth has gone unpredictable with the weather. It has become more polluted, so I decided to apply this concept in my piece.

Process (Childhood Creativity)
The first idea was for the school system hindering the creativity of children and telling them what to think and believe. This got me to create a pile of color pencils and make them into a tower where the baby would be.

Process (Negligence)The second idea consisted of Earth pollution. This is a serious matter that can affect us all, so it needs attention. This was the idea that caught more of my appeal, so I created it.

Meaning
The meaning of Negligence was that Earth needs to be taken care of since it's the only place that can support life as we know it. There is no guarantee that there are other planets like the one that we live in, so we must take care of it. Right now, pollution has gotten out of hand because as the recent weather shows, global warming is getting worse. The idea of the fire was to represent pollution. At the end of the session, the Earth got really damaged which contributes to the damage that we as a human race are causing it. Global warming is the only explanation as to why the weather recently has changed and can't be predictable. All the poisonous air or environment, affects us and the things that surround us. Earth's wellbeing is important and it should be taken seriously, not lightly because it determines our survival as well as other living things.
Reflection
This project has shown me new experiences when working with different media. Newspaper was really frustrating to work with since it didn't really cooperate with me. Some pieces were sticking up and I couldn't get a perfect sphere that I expected to have. At the beginning I planned to creat just a tower of color pencils, but the idea wasn't as strong as I have hoped. However, I changed it to creating an Earth. I felt that this concept was really strong since I felt really passionate about this topic. I struggled with setting the Earth on fire since it was on a cold, semi-windy night, so it was difficult to capture the moment when I lit the Earth on fire. I failed at going out the appropriate time. Originally, I intended to go outside when it was kind of dark and kind of light. However, I got out too late so it made it hard to see as well as lighting up the Earth. The success that I had in this project was that I captured a picture where the Earth could be seen as it was on fire. Not only that, but I also succeeded with having the Earth look grim and damaged. I felt like it captured a snapshot of the Earth's recent status. If I could do this project again, I would plan out better and come up with better ideas in order to get audience's attention more. The reason for this is because I felt that this piece wasn't as appealing as I thought it would be. However, I am sure that this was a good shot of hinting people that we should do something about this issue in order to get Earth healthier.
