"Death Has No Age"
|
PlanningAt the beginning of this project, I had my idea right away. The previous project I did, which was the block print, got me the main idea of what I want to do in my dry point piece. The Black Death was the main idea that inspired the final product of this project. I began by brainstorming (Seen to the right) about how I wanted to show death with its next victim. At first, I planned to create a grown man in a body of a deadly skinny horse, but I began to think if I should put a woman instead of a man, or anything besides the man since I wanted to change the main character's age so that I can convey my message as well.

Artistic Inspiration
ProcessWhat I first did was to sketch the objects that I wanted to focus on in this piece. The theme was the Black Death that took place in medieval Europe in the 1400s. I began to eliminate the sketches that were too detailed since it would be hard to manipulate on the Plexiglas plate.

MeaningThe meaning behind this creation is that there is no escape to death. It doesn't matter if you're rich, poor, good-looking, ugly, young or old, we'll all die at the end. Everyone shares the same fate: Death. Although that gives a scary feeling, we're all trapped in life, there's no going back and the only way to get out of it is by dying or meeting with death at some point.

ReflectionI believe that this piece gave the viewer a sort of clear concept of what I'm trying to say. At first, it could confuse and give them an indifferent expression. I like it to be like that since if they don't find the piece exciting at first, they might have to take a closer look at what I'm trying to depict and say. I think that I did well in this project because I accomplished with saying what I think about death. There were many struggles along the way like when I could think of a lot of stuff. I was cracking my head on how I wanted to show death and its impact with human life.
